Wix Ecommerce Website

What is Wix?

Wix is a website builder that let's you create attractive websites without the need for any coding or design experience. Wix also has a professional website builder called Wix Studio which allows web developers and coders to design great websites for clients.

How much does Wix cost in 2024?

Wix has a wide range of pricing models and plans ranging from free right up to Enterprise plans to meet the most demanding needs of any company or business. Wix allows it's users to pay monthly, yearly or multi-year for its plans, with some attracting a discount for committing to a longer period of time.

Whilst the free plan is great for some users, it does have it's limitations such as not being able to connect a custom domain name, or accept payments through your website. There are four pricing options available in 2024 which include 'Lite' at £9 per month, 'Core' at £16 per month, 'Business' at £25 per month, 'Business Elite' at £119 per month and Enterprise on a per business basis. It's worth noting that Wix often runs discounts where users can benefit from 50% of yearly plans which include a free domain name for 12-months. You can find out more about all pricing plans, and the features available by visiting this link.

How much does it cost to hire a Wix website designer or Wix website developer for your project?

The answer to this question varies depending on the complexity of your requirements, but generally speaking, you can find freelancers who will build you a simple one-page website from as little as $100. For Wix website projects I am delivering for my own clients, the average cost is between £500-£2,500.

That being said, it pays to thoroughly research a freelancer or developer before hiring someone to avoid costly mistakes later down the line. As a Wix developer, I am often asked to join a project part way through, due to a freelancer promising the world and then not being able to deliver what a client wants. It's always a good idea to spend a couple of hours creating a detailed brief of what you are trying to achieve, it's time well spent as it will allow you to obtain accurate quotes. See my project planner here for more information.

Can Wix host my domain?

Yes, for Wix websites, you can either purchase a domain name directly through the platform, or alternatively if you have purchased a domain elsewhere, you can adjust some settings to point your domain to your Wix website.

Can Wix take payments?

Yes, Wix has a powerful built-in payment processor, but also integrates with multiple payment providers. If you have a need to take payments on your website, it's worth doing some research on processing fees and costs as these vary from one provider to another. Wix offers very low processing fees and in my opinion is a great option right out of the box.

Does Wix integrate with QuickBooks and Shopify?

Yes, both and hundreds of other integrations are available, most of which have step-by-step instructions directly within the Wix platform.

Can Wix create a mobile app?

In short, yes! However there's a few different options available when it comes to mobile apps, including Wix Spaces. Whatever your requirements for a mobile app, Wix can make it happen!

Do Wix websites look good on all browsers and devices?

Yes, Wix does a lot of the leg work for you in regards to making sure your website looks great on all devices, but there's also a mobile editor for tweaking the look of your website on smaller screens. If you want to go one step further, Wix Studio allows you to customise your websites look for multiple devices and browsers but for this, you may need support from an expert.

Wix vs Wordpress?

This is a never ending debate between developers/designers and even clients. The way I see it, every developer has their favourite platform for building websites on and no matter what you say, you will never sway them away from that platform. For me, I am often asked the question, why should I choose Wix over WordPress? I give the same answer every time, as follows:

In my opinion I would choose Wix over WordPress every time for my client websites for the following reasons:

  • Once your website is built and launched, it's very easy for you to make website updates and add additional content and functionality without the need to pay developer fees.

  • Wix offers incredible capabilities out-the-box so you don't need to rely on third party plug-ins that could be full of bugs, or discontinued without notice

  • Wix offers powerful SEO tools that are free and continuously being developed and improved which helps ensure your site is visible to the world and reduces the need for extra spend on SEO services

  • Wix offers an unmatched level of customer service and technical support should you ever need it

  • Wix releases new features and updates on a daily basis ensuring that your website can keep up with the ever changing pace of the online landscape

  • Wix ensures site security, safety and automatic back-ups keeping your website safe 24/7.

  • Wix AI is for me, ahead of it's time and allows you to do most design and copy writing with minimal effort

  • Wix Automations allows for clever communications with site visitors, reducing the amount of admin time a business has to spend on customer interaction

The list really does go on! That being said, WordPress is a good platform and powers millions of the web's biggest websites.

Does Wix has good SEO options

Yes, Yes and Yes! Wix has a complete suite of advanced SEO tools to help optimise your website for search and increase your organic traffic. Best of all, it offers step-by-step instructions that allow every site owner the ability to improve their websites visibility on their own.

Can Wix host a WordPress website?

No, Wix exclusively hosts sites that are built directly within the platform itself and does not offer hosting for other sites, such as those built of WordPress or SquareSpace.

Can my Wix website be private?

Yes, you can protect your entire site and give access to a specific group of people, or you can protect individual pages or content across your website e.g. if you wanted to charge a membership fee for access to certain content.

Does my Wix website need a blog?

Yes and No! Whilst there is no requirement for your website to have a blog or news page, it can significantly increase your website visitors and SEO score if you share relevant news for your business/niche/sector.
